| Liquefaction and the associated ground flow inflicted serious damage to various infrastructures including foundations of highway bridges in the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake. Bridge foundations should be carefully designed against earthquakes, because it is difficult to find out and repair damage to foundations. Consequently, it is important to evaluate the influence of lateral earth pressure acting on foundations appropriately, however, there are many obscure points about the seismic response of pile foundation of bridge abutment, especially when the ground liquefies. In this paper, we modeled a pile foundation of bridge abutment on the liquefiable ground, and conducted shaking table tests. The liquefaction-induced lateral earth pressure acting on pile foundation was measured in the experiment. Based on the experimental results, we studied the mechanism of liquefaction-induced lateral earth pressure acting on pile foundation of bridge abutment. |
