| Seismic response of a bridge abutment located near a river dyke is the consequence of complex interactions among bridge(s), abutment, foundation ground, embankment, river dyke, and associated lateral spreading of liquefied soils. This paper reports result of preliminary dynamic 3D FE analyses on a bridge abutment constructed adjacent to a river dyke, considering liquefaction of foundation soils, and demonstrates importance of consideration of kinematic loading induced by surrounding soils on assessment of seismic response of bridge abutment on liquefiable soils. |
