| "An Eco-tube is kind of geo-synthetic container made of a permeable geo-textile tube. When dredged soil is injected into an Eco-tube, the filtration effect of the geo-textile ejects water from the tube while the soil remains inside it. The method permits the effective use of high water content soil for work such as repairing slope failures by taking advantage of the reinforcement effects of geo-textiles.This paper discusses the environmental properties of the Eco-tube method that include improved vegetation and drainage quality plus the containment of toxic substances. (1)Encouraging vegetation on Eco-tubesIt is preferable to encourage plant growth on Eco-tubes, for not only environmental reasons, but to obtain the protection effects of the geo-textile. The growth of plants and the effects of the vegetation on durability caused by the geo-textile were studied.(2)Drainage qualityA main function of the Eco-tube method is to dewater high water content soil. The turbidity of the drainage according to the condition of different Eco-tube was measured to examine the drainage quality. Its application to contain dioxins contaminated sediment was also examined." |
