| In this study, a simple statistical method was developed to correct bias which GCM20, an Atmospheric General Circulation Model developed by the Meteorological Research Institute, has in precipitation. The method primarily aimed to correct the bias of GCM20 daily precipitation in extreme heavy daily precipitation and seasonal precipitation such as monthly precipitation. The basic idea of the bias correction is to adjust the probability distribution of GCM20 daily precipitation to that of observed daily precipitation and it is applicable to large or many areas. To examine the correction performance, the method was applied for a river basin in Japan. The results confirmed that it appropriately corrected the GCM20 bias in both monthly precipitation and extreme daily precipitation for both present and future climate condition. |
