| his paper presents the damage of bridge structures during recent earthquakes in Japan and the effectiveness of seismic retrofit works for existing bridge structures. The past seismic retrofit practices for bridge structures and the damage caused by recent earthquakes including the 2004 Niigata-ken-chuetsu earthquake are presented. Through the damage investigations, the effectiveness of the seismic retrofit works is discussed from the view point of damage. |
