| It is learned that most of the Indonesian coastal areas have in average experienced one tsunami events every five years, but Papua and the Maluku Islands area is every 12 years, and Borneo Island area is every 40 years. The maximum tsunami intensity (I) is between 2 and 4, whereas the most frequent events are with intensity between I=1 to 1.5. It is also learned that regular updating of contact point data is an important measure to facilitate smooth warning dissemination until the end node of disaster target. Immediate evacuation response was proven to reduce disaster risk. Once people understand the danger of tsunami and keep aware on it, they are expected to conduct immediate evacuation response even if the hazard is generated in the middle of the night. Most of coastal cities or villages in Indonesia perform high exposure and vulnerability. They are very close to coastline without any protective structure. At the same time, about 40 millions people are living along coastal areas under ten meter elevation. Based on the reconstruction experiences in Banda Aceh after 2004 tsunami disaster, integrating recovery processes into land use planning is a very important matter to prevent similar or greater impact in the future possible tsunami disaster. |
