| This paper presents some field investigation findings on the characteristics of several coastal vegetations at Southern coast of Java、Indonesia in relation with tsunami disaster mitigation. Investigation included identification of vegetation species and size and measurement of breaking moment capacity. Investigation sites cover mid-southern coastal area of Java Island、from Parangkusumo Coast (Yogyakarta) to Pangandaran Coast (West Java). It is found that Acacia m.、Avicennia m.、Rhizopora m.、Casuarina e.、Anacardium o.、Terminalia c.、Pandanus o. and Hibiscus t. are common coastal vegetation trees along the survey area. In general、correlation between trunk diameter (d) and breaking moment capacity (M) of the trees in this area is close to the trend found by other researcher in other area (e.g. Thailand、Sri Lanka)、but a tendency of different breaking moment capacity at different locations was found for Pandanus o. Although more data on bigger tree trunk diameter are necessary to provide more accurate approximation、it is also known from this resesearch that the breaking moment capacity (M) is proporsional to the root of bending stiffness (EI) of the tree trunk. |
