| Soil liquefaction affects much the seismic performance of highway bridges, and the vigorous studies have been conducted and applied to the design practice. This paper presents the design requirements of highway bridges for soil liquefaction and their backgrounds with emphasis on liquefaction potential assessment, ductility design of pier foundations for liquefaction, and seismic design of pier foundation for liquefaction- induced ground flow. |
