In this research, limit states of reinforced concrete bridge column are redefined considering the required seismic performance of bridges, nonlinear cyclic behavior of reinforced concrete bridge columns and damage progress, and a new evaluation method of ductility capacity is proposed in order to improve the accuracy of evaluation of ductility capacity of reinforced concrete bridge columns. This proposed method is developed through analyses of cyclic loading test results of reinforced concrete bridge column specimens, and includes a new equation that estimates plastic hinge length and equations for allowable tensile strain of longitudinal reinforcement, which determines limit state of reinforced concrete bridge column, considering buckling behavior of longitudinal reinforcement under flexural failure. |
