As the joint study of soft ground between PWRI and DOH, the authors have started the research on the new construction techniques to raise elevations of highways in Bangkok. The highways might suffer the serious inundation by heavy rain and high sea water level due to climate change by global warming. Technical point is the elevation of embankment by about 3m, which should be safe and economical by avoiding a large settlement in Bangkok clay. The key concept is to reduce settlement by a wide panel of cemented soils (shallow stabilization) with geo-textile under embankment. The authors have described this concept and the basic experimental results by a series of centrifuge model tests in this paper.
