Many results have been announced on the utilization of soil and cement concrete materials since installation of industrial X-ray CT at Kumamoto University in 1996. The purpose of this study is to propose a new quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) method of asphalt mixtures using X-ray CT. Firstly, three specimens of dense-graded asphalt mixture were made. Next, X-ray CT test was conducted, CT values which were related to densities of materials were computed and CT images were obtained. Finally threshold values were computed to divide CT images into void, asphalt and filler, fine aggregate and course aggregate. Based on this test, X-ray CT images of asphalt mixture could show the shape of aggregate and distribution of void and so on. Besides, CT value was effective evaluation method to evaluate a difference of the density of the asphalt materials and mixtures. |
