Nitrile polymers have been of significant interest as gas barrier membranes due to the dipolar-induced self-assembling features. Novel polyphenylacetylene derivatives bearing four nitrile groups were synthesized by the Rh-catalyzed polymerization of the phenylacetylene derivatives substituted by dialkylanilino-appended alkynes, followed by quantitative postfunctionalization using atom-economic tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) addition. The polymer membranes displayed a reasonable decrease in the oxygen permeability after postfucntionalization. |
