Novel polyphenylacetylene derivatives bearing aniline-substituted alkynes in the side chains were synthesized by the [Rh(nbd)Cl]2-catalyzed polymerization at room temperature. Postfunctionalization using atom-economic tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) addition to the side chain alkynes resulted in the introduction of four nitrile groups in the polymer repeat units. Polymer membranes displayed a noticeable decrease in the oxygen permeability after postfucntionalization, which was supported by a clear change in the surface morphology measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM). |
