In Japan, demand for condition assessment and rehabilitation of existing civil structures is rapidly increasing. Further advancement of non-destructive inspection (NDI) technology is an essential for this purpose. In this paper, current situation and issues of maintenance of civil structures, focusing on highway bridges, followed by research activity for NDI technology by PWRI, are presented. |
