Since the design guides for pavement works were revised to performance-based in Japan, various pavement technologies such as cool pavement, which can cool down the maximum temperature of road surface from 60 degree C to 50 degree C, have been developed in Japan. In order to evaluate these technologies, several evaluations have been also developed. In this paper, skid resistance, traffic noise and water permeability are picked up, and present status of the evaluation methods for these functions are introduced. Dynamic Friction (DF) Tester was originally developed in Japan, and has been adopted as the ASTM test method. Traffic noise is one of the most interested functions in Japan, and original evaluation equipment, which is called Road Acoustic Checker, was developed and has still been revised. Water permeability is necessary to improve the traffic safety in rainy days, especially in expressways |
