A risk evaluation procedure for shallow landslide is proposed using newly developed soil penetration test, Soil Strength Probe Test (SSP), which enables to measure not only topsoil depth but also cohesion and internal friction angle in situ. The procedure is as follows. Step A: Investigation area selection. Step B: Detailed topographic mapping. Step C: Landform unit mapping. Step D: Engineering geological unit mapping. Step E: Slope unit zoning using the above data. Step F: Unstable zone selection for detailed topsoil investigation. Step G: Topsoil depth distribution mapping by SSPT and the clarification of patchwork structure of soil depth. Step H: Estimation of probable shallow landslide blocks. Step I: Selection of unstable shallow landslide blocks by VSCT measurement and calculation of stability etc. STEP J: Evaluation of debris reach probability and risk by SLSS method etc. |
