Recently, serious fatigue cracks have increasingly been reported at rib?to-deck welds in orthotropic steel decks on severe traffic highway routes. As an effective countermeasure against these fatigue cracks, a steel-fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) overlay is gradually applied, while crack tips are removed to reduce local stress in the shape of cut-out details. Static/fatigue loading tests and FE analyses were conducted for a full scale OSD specimen overlaid by SFRC in order to investigate fatigue behavior around cut-out details by changing the length and location of weld root cracks. In this paper, these results are presented and the retrofit effect by SFRC overlay is discussed. |
