Overthelastdecade,integratedsedimentmanagementisbeingmoreincreasinglyappliedinJapan.Forsomebasinsystems,thesedimentdynamicstatesoftheentirebasinshavebeenunderstood,andplansfortheirsedimentmanagementarebeingdrawnup.Anotherareaofresearchistheimpactevaluationofsedimentdischarge.Sedimentdischargefromadamreservoirisanimportantcountermeasureforreservoirsedimentation.UsingexperimentalstreamsattheAquaRestorationResearchCenter,wearestudyingtheimpactofsedimentdischargeonthehabitatofaquaticsthatdependonthedownstreamriverbedenvironment.Therearethreeexperimentalstreams,each800mlong.Usingfloodgates,wecancontroltheflow-rateandincreaseitupto4,000L/s.Inaddition,wecanconductcomparativeexperimentsinactualconditionsnearariverwithlivingaquaticssuchasfish,benthicorganisms,andalgae.Wepresentrepresentativeresultsoftheresearchconductedinrecentyears. |
