We have been using seed compounding with several species of alien grass for slope vegetation in Hokkaido, which is located in the northern part of Japan. These types of grass would survive well in cold weather and green quickly. However, “Tall fescue” which is one of the alien grass, was designated as A “Cautionary alien species” by “Invasive Alien Species Act” which established by the Japanese Ministry of Environment. The primary reason for this designation was the nature of this grass to spread to other areas and interfere with the growth of other species. Our research has focused on the testing of several substitute species as a viable replacement for “Tall fescue”. Our research has also been considering a possible decrease in the amount of seed required. We conducted several field test constructions. From the result of experiments, all of the substitute species for Tall fescue could perform well when compared with the base criterion. However, under the severe conditions only Tall fescue, could perform well. The amount of seed used, showed an early effect on growth speed, however during the second measurement there was no apparent effect on maximum greening. |
