In the upcoming years, the number of aged bridges will increase drastically due to the huge number of steel bridges that were constructed in the high economic growth period of Japan. With the increasing of the aged bridges, the deterioration and damage caused by the heavy traffic and severe natural environment also increase rapidly. Concerning the steel truss bridges, the serious corrosion damage has been reported recently, especially on the diagonal members and the gusset plate connections. The fracture of these members of steel truss bridge is likely to lead the collapse of the entire truss bridge. In this study, the corrosion types of the five connections on the steel truss bridge that were cut out for corrosion measurement will be summarized. From the corrosion evaluation results, the precautions, maintenance procedure and the implementation of inspection on priority area of steel bridge’s member and connections for the future steel truss bridge also will be proposed. |
