ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) pipes are sometimes used as piers of the bridge in mountainous regions. ERW pipes are relatively economical because they are produced in large quantities in factories. However, the elasto-plastic behavior of ERW pipes including the ultimate strength and the ductility may be different from those of bending roll pipes which are generally used as bridge piers. In this study, in order to grasp the elasto-plastic behavior of ERW pipes, cyclic loading experiments were conducted. The experimental results show the possibility that a decrease in radius thickness ratio parameter leads to an increase in the ultimate strength and the ductility by using ERW pipes whose yield ratio is low. |
