Older reinforced concrete bridge piers of road viaducts have few shear reinforcement bars. Therefore, it is required to improve shear capacity and ductility. We proposed a new seismic retrofit technology for cases where the workspace and construction time are restricted. This is a combination of post-insertion of plate-anchored reinforcing bars and installing carbon fiber composite panels. In this study, cyclic loading tests were carried out to verify its shear strengthening and improvement ductility effect. In addition, this paper describes the result of examining the concept of design for the strengthened members according to Specifications for Highway Bridges. |
