This study aims to understand the cultural ecosystem services (CES) characteristics of rivers using the survey report data of the national census on the usage status of rivers because no method has been established so far. Out of nine rivers, information on specific usage patterns and locations was extracted from the survey report for every one river from each region, and usage pattern correspondence with the CES classification was organized. As a result, 79 types of usage patterns corresponding to all CES classifications were extracted. It was also characteristic that the most common CES related to “recreation and tourism,” and some CES showing the historical relationship between rivers and people in Japan couldbe read from the data. The portfolio of the usage pattern was different depending on the river, and the factors such as seasonality, local culture, the space of usage location, the existence of facilities, and physical characteristics of the river were deduced. |
